Mahidol Learning Center,Salaya Campus
Until 1969, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej granted approval to change the name of the university to “Mahidol University”. The core concept of design in the three galleries, namely HRH the Prince Father’s Biography, Mahidol University Hall of Fame and Archives, Maps and Master Plans, lies in the combination of sky, rainbow, land and the elements to convey the meaning of each gallery as well as for the sake of continuity of the subject matter. Thus, HRH the Prince Fathers’ Biography Gallery features the concept of ‘Fa’ (sky) represented in his royal title ‘Chao Fa’ while the concept in Mahidol University Hall of Fame is represented by ‘rainbow’, the seven colours of which represent the university core value through the seven letters M-A-H-I-D-O-L, as well as ‘land’ which represents the prestige of the institution all through the long years and a breeding source for the younger generations. The concept in the Archives, Maps and Master Plans Gallery is based on ‘the elements’, the core components of fertility and sources of physical existence. Background
With an extensive history, Mahidol University was originated from the royal intention of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn to found Siriraj Hospital in the area of Wang Lang (the Rear Palace) in 1886, and then started an operation in 1888. It was later developed to a medical school in 1893 before His Majesty King Chulalongkorn named it as Royal Medical College in 1900, and was finally promoted to University of Medical Science in 1942.
